Research on multi-disciplinary product information management
The research work supporting the Data4Profit framework has been focused on the design process of multi-disciplinary systems. Special attention has been paid on tool integration, enabled by standardized information sharing formats. The main source of mistakes in the design is a human designer, why each design phase shall result information, which may directly be used as a source of next phase. Furthermore, it shall be possible to share design information between different disciplines without any barriers. Successful integration has already been achieved among system modeling, CANopen system design, IEC 61131-3 SW development and electric design. Data4Profit information sharing and field information accumulation is a logical extension of the multi-disciplinary, linked information management from system design into the field service. One shall notice, that everything working in the field service, will also work in the assembly lines.
Abstracts are provided for each publication. Some of the publications are not available on-line for free or are not yet available on-line and thus cannot be referred. Interested readers are adviced to contact Cloudfield Operations Oy regarding such publications.
This section include generic information on design process, such as the utilization of open data and effects of following standardized processes and state-of-the art tool integration to the overall productivity.
Functional safety requirements are ever increasing in the industrial automation. There has been constrained understanding on the safety performance achievable by the field bus systems. This sections contains detailed analysis on the safety performance of control systems distributed by field bus.
Model-based design is widely used in the industry for comparing the alternative design approaches and dynamic behavior of the systems. Code generation is used for creating application programs directly from the models. Such concept may be supplemented by including also the system integration interface descriptions into same models and exporting the interface descriprions for system design.
The most significant improvements in ontrol systems may be achieved by using the modern concepts. The use of field buses enables improved quality and scalability. The resulting higher level of abstraction opens new approaches for more efficient design procedures.
CANopen is one of the most advanced system integration frameworks in the market. However, some supplemental features improving both safety performance, quality and efficiency of the system level design procedures had to be developed and capabilities for some other features have already been supported but the use of needed to be recognized and documented in details.
There is also direct dependency between automation, software and electric design. Many electrical and transmission line details have significant effect on the control behavior.
Software development is the most time consuming part in each automation project. Interface management is one of the most essential part of the SW development. Thus, systematic and automated approach for generating the entire commmunication abstraction layer instead of manual programming has been developed. Special focus has been in detection and management of the most typical exceptions, which directly helps to meet the increasing safety performance requirements.
Efficient design work expects the use of multiple instances of standard components, adapted to various purposes by changing configuration. Achieving required quality, systematic management of the device configurations is required.
Efficient field service procedures require systematic design procedures resulting consistent documentation, where drawings, documents and data packets may be accessed unambiguously and linked together. Consistent documentation also enables reliable feedback information from the field, based on which the designs and various operations may be improved.
In traditonal way of working, most productive features of field bus based systems have not been utilized in series production. Standardized configuration management process and storage formats enable efficient information transfer from design to assembly and assembly procedure.
